Co-parenting can be challenging in any environment, but the pandemic has made it extremely difficult. To try to help, we’re bringing you experts in different areas of law to talk about how the coronavirus is affecting their legal issues through Facebook live events. Our latest live event featured Texas Legal network attorney Angela Faye Brown of Angela Faye Brown and Associates, PLLC. Angela shared her enormous expertise and answered so many questions from our viewers.
Watch the event below:
24:00 – If one parent is an essential worker and is potentially being exposed to the virus at work. Can they lose custody temporarily because of child’s safety?
29:10 – During COVID-19, is the Attorney General’s office waiving child support or giving leniency due to unemployment?
33:52 – If I took my baby’s father off child support, what is the process to put him back on?
34:55 – Are stimulus payments automatically going to custodial parent for child support?
36:30 – Can I modify my current custody order even if we just went back to court due to COVID
39:00 – My court case was scheduled, but is now delayed. Which cases will be deemed emergency and get priority when courts open?
42:00 – How long does a noncustodial parent have to request a DNA test for child they are paying child support?
45:30 – We had a stair-step order visitation which my ex did not follow. His job exposes him to people daily, and he won’t communicate that he’s being careful. Plus, he has other children coming to visit and travels to his girlfriend’s house out of town with her children. I’ve tried communicating and he won’t answer and claims I’m withholding her. Her immune system is compromised so she is a high-risk child. Do I have the right to say no she’s not going?
49:50 – Is there a statute of limitations on owed child support? My son turns 18 very soon. The child support ends then, but my ex hasn’t paid in 6 years. Will the AG’s office just stop pursuing then?
50:50 – what is the significance of a temporary order? My son has custody of his child under a temporary, and the child’s mom is in Florida. Mom is threatening to come back and take permanent custody.
53:45 – Does the AG stop pursuing enforcements or automatically forgive child support arrearages after so many years?
55:30 – My son’s mom kept him from me for 10 plus years and refuses to cooperate with court orders. I am concerned for his well being. How can I gain any access to information or even visitation of any kind? I’m in San Antonio, where can I start again to try to do what’s best for my son, legal wise.
01:05:00 – Is it possible to obtain full custody on the basis of the other parent’s drug/alcohol abuse? I have no proof, but a drug test would provide it if that could be mandated by the court?
01:13:40 – Is Travis County delaying cases or only taking emergency cases?
01:14:20 – Absent any substantive issues, how likely is a non custodial parent successful in gaining custody based on the assertion that it is in the “best interest” of the child? The non custodial parent is/has moved closer to the child, is this relevant if none of the other stipulations in the original order have changed?
01:17:00 My son’s mom kept him from me for 10 plus years and refuses to cooperate with court orders and am concerned for well being and doesn’t give any info as to if he has a weak immune system or essentials at home. How can I gain any access to information or even visitation of any kind, I’ve tried to go through mediation. I am not trying to get away from paying, I’ve tried to work many options ( she changes numbers purposely) but have hit a wall. I’m in San Antonio, where can I start again to try to do what’s best for my son, legal wise.
1:22: 20 I work in a Texas prison. Since the coronavirus is spreading so fast in the prisons, I am leery of getting too close to my 13 year-old daughter since she has asthma issues. The last thing I want to do is pass something to my kid, but I miss seeing her too.
