Divorce is said to be one of the most stressful life events, second only to the death of a spouse, according to the American Institute of Stress.
One aspect of divorce that makes it so stressful is that most people go through it alone. But thanks to a new website, DivorceForce.com, that doesn’t have to be the case.
That feeling of isolation is one of the things that inspired founder Gregory Frank to create DivorceForce, a new community for people considering and going through divorce that pairs the power of social media with the facts and answers people need.
“Divorce is a negative experience, but DivorceForce is not a negative site. This is where people come to get educated, to meet others and to move on with their new life,” says Frank.
DivorceForce came about when Frank’s co-creator, Jeff Meshel, went through a difficult divorce and sent out an email to other men experiencing divorce to get together to talk and get advice. Frank got the email, but knew that there was more to the idea than just a one-time event.
From there, Frank and Meshel started the Divorced Dads Council, hosting events in New York City on different topics related to divorce. They soon realized that the demand for information and community surrounding divorce was huge and needed an online community where men and women could get the support they needed.
“The reality is that everybody knows somebody affected by a divorce – whether it’s somebody contemplating divorce, going through a divorce or has been divorced. We feel the time is now to really build a safe and supporting community where people can connect and get answers,” says Frank.
DivorceForce offers a wraparound approach to its members, providing a wealth of services and information. Here’s an overview of what the site offers:
Join Anonymously
Because Divorce is a sensitive subject, not everyone is ready to put their name on it. The site offers an incognito function so that users can access the site without having to share their identity.
Informational Articles on Divorce-Related Topics
DivorceForce has a wealth of articles on a variety of topics related to divorce, such as child support, custody and visitation, infidelity, abusive relationships, as well as life after divorce, parenting, dating and more. Check out articles such as Questions To Ask Your Divorce Attorney, Important Documents to Have in Place for Divorce, and How is Custody Decided in Court?.
Connecting With Other People Going Through Divorce
Whether you need to just ask a question or vent about your situation, DivorceForce’s discussion forums can help. Premium users can even search by location, age, lawyer or judge to find other users to connect with.
Shared Calendar for Divorced Parents
Parenting after divorce can be extremely challenging, especially when it comes to coordinating schedules with your former spouse. That’s why the site offers a online family calendar tool where families can share schedules, pick ups, visitations and more and allow parents, kids, grand parents and other caregivers to access the information anytime.
Divorce Lawyer Reviews
Although a lot of online sites offer lawyer reviews, Frank says DivorceForce wanted to avoid fake reviews and give users good information on potential attorneys. So reviews can only be written by paid users and in a specific format – a 16 question survey that asks clients to rate their attorney on specific questions, such as “Did your attorney prepare you for your deposition?” and “Does the judge respect your attorney in court?”.
Services for Those Experiencing Divorce
Frank says DivorceForce is working on more ways to help people experiencing divorce with other aspects of their life, such as dating, finding a new job and even an amortizing life insurance policy for parents paying child support.
But at the core, DivorceForce will always be about creating a community and empowering people through divorce.
“At the end of the day, we are a community. There are lots of things we can do to help that community. We are filling a gap in the marketplace. We see the opportunity, and we see how important and how powerful it can be to connect with other people,” says Frank.
