AUSTIN, Texas—Texas Legal, the statewide nonprofit legal insurance plan founded by the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Legislature, announced today it is now a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT). IIAT is the nation’s largest state association of Trusted Choice® agencies, representing approximately 1,700 agencies and more than 14,000 agents and insurance professionals. Trusted Choice® agencies are advocates for insurance consumers, helping them comparison shop for cost-effective and customized coverage.

“We are very excited to join the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas,” James W. Buck, president of Texas Legal, said. “Both Texas Legal and IIAT are dedicated to connecting Texans with providers who are ready to serve at an affordable cost.”

Legal insurance covers legal expenses much like health insurance covers medical expenses. A low monthly premium provides Texas Legal members access to a network of attorneys throughout the state, with no further costs (subject to plan limitations). Texas Legal has over 500 qualified attorneys providing members with legal services such as estate planning, adoptions, divorce, foreclosure, identity theft, traffic tickets, bankruptcy and more. Both civil and criminal law services are available.

In 2014, the State Bar of Texas reported nearly 100,000 active attorney members throughout the state. With a median hourly rate of over $200, many Texans feel as though access to an attorney is out of reach financially. Texas Legal provides a wide variety of legal services for groups and individuals at an annual cost that is roughly the same as one hour of an attorney’s time.

Texas Legal membership is available to large and small companies as a group benefit, at no cost to the employer. The employee pays a small monthly amount; family members are also covered.
