Our History

Texas Legal is a statewide, nonprofit legal benefit plan that was founded by the State Bar of Texas and the Texas State Legislature in 1972 as an effort to better meet the legal needs of Texans.

In the late 1960’s, the American Bar Association published a study that revealed the disenchantment and frustration with the legal system and the rising costs of hiring an attorney. The State Bar of Texas decided to take action and created a program where Texans could retain services from a licensed and Participating Attorney at a reduced cost.

Fifty years later, Texas Legal continues to help Texans resolve their legal issues and better manage their legal needs.

Texas Legal provides legal coverage exclusively to Texans. Because we’re based in Texas, we actively participate in benefit and enrollment meetings across the Lone Star State as well as help facilitate workshops to educate our Members on the importance of legal protection.

Texas Legal operates as a non-profit organization with a mission-based focus to provide affordable legal access to Texas citizens.
